Preparing for College – Things to Do Before the Fall

Hey high school graduates… or should we say college freshmen! You’ve completed your time in high school, and now it’s time to take the next step: college! If you’re heading to a new campus this fall, make sure you keep these things in mind before you leave.

Check In with Your New School

Do you know what classes you’re taking? What books you’ll need? When orientation is? What financial aid package you’re getting? These are all important questions you need to ask yourself before you head to campus this fall. Make sure to stay on top of communications from your chosen college so you don’t miss anything important!

Go Shopping

Whether you’re staying in a dorm on campus or just commuting, everyone needs new school supplies! Stock up on notebooks, pens and pencils, a new planner, and anything else you might need to make your first semester a success. If you’re planning to live in a dorm room, make sure you get all the essentials you need to live away from home! Each college dorm has different requirements and rules about what you can and cannot have in your room, so make sure you check before you go shopping. Here’s a handy list of items you might need:

  • Twin XL size bedding
  • Microwave
  • Mini fridge
  • Photos of family and friends
  • Shower caddy (if you’re sharing a bathroom)
  • Towels
Have Quality Time

Whether you’re going to a school 10 miles away or 10 state away, make sure you schedule some quality time with your family and friends before beginning this next chapter in your life. Don’t forget to make a plan to keep in touch with everyone, too!
